Stage 3, BA (Hons) Architecture

Both projects imbue a sense of newfound vitality into Margate’s historically-significant seaside resort. The Theatre Royal intervention is characterful, affording entry into an alternative world of theatre, making use of a dramatic brick-vaulted ceiling, drawing on Margate’s vernacular locality and materiality. The Egret demonstrates a re-upcycled utopia at Margate’s dilapidated ‘LIDO’ site, tackling Cliftonville’s poverty. It draws on Margate’s ship-building industry, with enlivening aluminium cladding, and the wingspan of Margate’s Little Egret bird, in form.
