Stage 3, BA (Hons) Architecture
Both of the projects displayed here have challenged and prompted me to engage with an existing building and its history. The canopy-like extension for Theatre Royal coherently speaks of our time and the technological possibilities of the century, while it approaches the old fabric with sensibility and respect. Margate Maritime Centre, or MAR, derived from the latin mare meaning sea, invites the connection between the community and the sea and the strengthening of a maritime culture and identity. The key architectural moves here are informed from the building’s history, subtly informing the visitor of its past.
