The Hackney Wick School of music aims to integrate all members of Hackney Wick’s communities, from the creative practitioners through to the elderly that strive to live a peaceful retirement in an urban setting. The Project aims to accommodate towards the social issues that the elderly may face in an urban setting and furthermore, create a day and night programme that can maximise the potential for social integration throughout the day for all members of Hackney Wick’s communities.
The proposal seeks to re-appropriate an existing 1950’s concrete framed structure into the scheme, as opposed to demolishing the structure to offset the total proposed embodied carbon cost if demolished. The reuse of the structure has been reprogrammed with the addition of a new CLT canopy roof structure.
