The collapse of the furniture trade in Shoreditch has allowed much of Shoreditch today to become gentrified and made it impossible for local joiners to return with less demand for furniture and the cost of living. My project, Hoxton Timber Yard, is an area of shared economy and local joiners that acts as a stronghold to upcycle furniture waste and encourage a sense of community for the shared collective of joiners.
