Whist providing a space of ‘escape’ within the familiar, Marc Augé defined ‘non place’ of Ashford, the proposal seeks to bring the divided citizens together with the local authority to ‘reclaim the city’. The scheme additionally explores the demand of Lefebvre’s ‘anthropological foundation’, whereby the citizens have the right to be ‘hidden’ as well as ‘exposed’ within this hub of social interaction and how these juxtapositions are required in order for the space to survive.
